hs_energyAccording to the International Energy Outlook 2016 report, total world consumption of marketed energy will expand from 549 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu) in 2012 to 629 quadrillion Btu in 2020 and to 815 quadrillion Btu in 2040. That represents an incredible 48% increase from 2012 to 2040.

Regardless of the reasons behind this growth, the energy sector has to be prepared for constantly increasing demand over the next two to three decades and beyond. Today’s global energy crisis highlights how energy producers aren’t able to cope with current demand, let alone meet global needs in the future. Many countries around the world are frequently experiencing on-going energy crises as their demand rises above their capacity, with Pakistan, Venezuela and Egypt commonly in the news because of this exact issue.
